Baseball

It’s almost time for the fall baseball season to begin and I haven’t even blogged about the regular season.  This year John Charles played for the Braves.

He chose the number 12 this year because that’s the age he wants to be.  He thinks that when he’s 12 he will be able to do all the things he wants to do – like chat online and have his own youtube channel.

 

Most of the season he played third base.

He also got to pitch a few times.

He only got 1 homerun during the season but he got hits and rbi’s in every game and for most of the season was the cleanup hitter.

The team celebrated the end of the season with a pool party.

After that we got a great surprise!  John Charles was chosen to play on the All Star Team!

The team was a wonderful group of boys.

 

John Charles enjoyed being with his friends.

He played outfield.

It was a lot of fun – except for the rain and rain delays!

Eat, Play, Learn

Eat:

Summer in the south means a lot of things to us, but one thing is VERY important – staying cool!  When I can’t stand the heat, I like to get out of the kitchen. Dairy Queen may not be the healthiest place to eat, but when the heat index is above 100 degrees, it’s a great treat.  Tasty, fun and cool foods and treats make a great summer’s day even better!

 

Play:

Our favorite place to play in the summer is in the pool!  On most days, we head out to the pool after our morning’s work is completed. We love water!

 

Learn:

We don’t do as much school in the summer as we do the rest of the year, but we do like to do some.  One thing that we have continued with this summer is Five in a Row Activities.  We love read-a-louds and the stories used with Five in a Row are great.  This week we are reading Madeline.  The activities that go along with the stories just seem like a natural extension of the book and make learning easy and fun.

A few of the topics we’ve learned about so far this week include: Geography -France, Art - French architecture,  Math - grouping, dividing, size, degree and symmetry, and Health for Science.
