Unplugged Project - Color

The theme for this week’s unplugged project was color.  For our project, we  made a colorful counting caterpillar.

I found a print out on the internet and assigned each number a color.

Next I cut the circles out for John Charles and instructed him to find the number one and to look at the key to find out what color to color number one, then number two and so on.

When all the numbers were colored John Charles glued the pieces onto a blank piece of paper.

We ended the project by writing his name in a rainbow of colors.

Unplugged Project - Cylinders

The theme for last weeks Unplugged Project was cylinders. The first thing that came to my mind was toilet tissue or paper towel rolls.  As I brainstormed ideas for the project, I recalled all the "puppets" that my mother used to make with the children in her home daycare.  So often the children would color a seasonal color page and then they would cut out the image and glue it onto a toilet tissue roll.  Voila, their own puppet.

For our project we made a Brown Bear:

~We cut a paper towel roll in half

~ Drew 2 small circles and 1 large circle onto brown construction paper

~ Cut the circles out

~ Got our brown paint and a paint brush

 

~John Charles painted one of the rolls with brown paint.

 

~ While the paint was drying he glued the 2 small circles onto the larger circle to make ears on the bears face.

 

~ Once the paint was dry and the glue on the ears was dry, he glued the face onto the cylinder body.

~Then it was time for the Brown Bear to read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See to John Charles.

 

~John Charles came up with his own idea of what to do with the second cylinder.  He used it as his telescope!
