Today we went to Indian Springs for the 20th Annual Native American Festival and PowWow. It was held on the grounds of the Indian Springs Hotel Museum. The Inn was built by the Creek Chief named William McIntosh. It just so happens that I grew up on McIntosh Road that was named after him and Randy grew up in Senoia, GA which was named after Chief McIntosh’s mother. Isn’t that an interesting bit of trivia!
Randy and John Charles in Chief McIntosh’s bedroom

John Charles excited about his spear
The entrance keeper of the circle
We were fortunate to see a 7 times national grand champion dancer
A Hopi Indian dancer who my Mama says is a real cutie
He was upset when he realized that he had been photographed with his beaded medallion flipped to the back side ( the black circle above) so I had to take a few more photos of him. Still didn’t get a good photo of the medallion though.
Zach didn’t go to the Pow Wow because he’s had a bit of an obsession going this week. We started our 2009-2010 homeschool session this week. It is our tradition to present the boys with gifts on the first day of class. This usually includes a book or two. This year we gave Zach Twilight, but didn’t really know if he would like it or not. Well, Zach started reading the book on Tuesday and finished it on Wednesday. On Thursday he went to the store to by the second book in the series but came home with the second and the third. He said he knew that he would finish book 2 quickly and wanted to already have book 3 waiting when he did. He finished book 3 today and is ready for the next one! He didn’t have any regrets about missing the Pow Wow.
