You Better Redneckognize!

We met Honey Boo Boo and family this weekend!  They were selling Girl Scout Cookies and having a meet and greet at their house and we decided to go for a visit on Sunday afternoon.  Interestingly, Mama June is from the same town that we live in.  Her mother still lives here and on Saturday the oldest daughter, Anna, and her baby were here in our town visiting.

It was a very interesting day!  The family is exactly like they appear on tv. They are loud, relaxed and fun loving. Alana had been meeting fans and posing for photos since 11AM and wanted a break.  She got on her bicycle and rode around the yard with her sister Pumpkin for awhile.  They rode through mud puddles for awhile and the back of Pumpkin’s pants were covered in mud.  Mama June saw her and laughed and yelled, “Pumpkin, you done sh*t your pants!”   Then Alana started jumping in the puddles and June said, “Alana what are you doing? You know you’ve got to wear those shoes to school tomorrow!”  Alana answered, “Nuh uh! I’ve got tennis shoes I can wear!” They sold over 1300 boxes of cookies and raised almost $600 for their local animal shelter! We were happy to support their cause and to meet our own Georgia celebrities!

Hello Everyone!

Hello Blog Friends! It’s been a while!  I have been missing blogging and hope to get back to it.  I don’t know if I’ll make time for it to be a regular thing, but I would like to post more often! As far as computer time goes, I spend most of it on Facebook or working on my 2013 Daily Photo Project.  Today I would like to share my last few photos with you, just to give you a peek into what’s been happening in my world.

Weekend Wrap Up

I love October weekends!  Don’t you?  There’s always so much to do and usually beautiful weather to do it in.  Our weekend started with a karate class on Friday night.  This is John Charles sparring with one of his classmates.

weekending6b

After karate we went to the county fair with my sister and nephew.  Since I was a child, the fair has always come to town during the week of my birthday and I would often have a pizza party and then go to the fair with my family and friends.  I still associate the fair with fun and celebration and love going there.

Saturday began with a morning karate class (this time in the pink shirt supporting cancer awareness). Testing begins on Monday and John Charles needed this class to prepare him for the test.

weekending3b

After karate Zach and Randy spent time target practicing with the karate instructors.

While they were doing that, John Charles and I were at the City Park for a birthday party for one of his friends.

Randy and Zach had a job to do on Sunday morning.  I spent the morning doing laundry and light cleaning while John Charles was allowed computer time.

We spent the afternoon watching football and the Mission to the Edge of Space. It was amazing seeing Felix make the 24 mile jump with speeds of over 700 miles an hour! I can’t imagine doing anything like that.

weekending7

I made a pot of homemade chili for dinner.  I’m about to take a walk around the neighborhood and then maybe watch a family movie tonight.  That’s our weekend!  How was yours?

At the County Fair

We all went to the county fair last night.  We couldn't believe how few people were there.  It was good for us because there were not any lines to any of the rides so the boys were able to ride all the rides they wanted as many times as they wanted.  There just didn't seem to be the same excitement in the air that I remember feeling in the past. It was still fun and I think we would all like to go back again tonight, but that would cost a small fortune!

Not Back to School

The public schools in our town started back to class this week.  We have always waited until the day after Labor Day to begin our school year.  We like to have a “Not Back to School” celebration on the day public school starts back.  We do that just to give our children some excitement too.  You know the first day back to homeschool just doesn’t hold the same sort of excitement that back to school holds for other children.  So, we celebrate the fact that we get to continue on with our summer for a while longer!

This year Randy and Zach had a job to do that lasted until around lunch time.  I let John Charles sleep late and then spend time playing computer games.  When the men got home we went to the batting cages and driving range and also spent some time playing in the game room.  We ended our fun with a trip to the Dairy Queen for cool treats!

It was a fun afternoon and I hope we’ll be able to have many more before our first day of the new school year.

In the Mountains

On Sunday afternoon Randy surprised me by saying he wanted us to plan a spur of the moment trip to the mountains.  He had been told that the job he had planned for the next week had to be postponed because the building was being used for voting and he had so much work booked that he didn’t know when we would have another chance to get away.  I got on the computer and started searching for mountain cabins and chalets.  Most places were already booked (or out of our price range).  We found one cabin that looked really nice, was available, and was only $99 a night! Three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a game room and a hot tub for that price!   We reserved the cabin and left for our little vacation the next morning! (By the way, the priced was raised to $250 per night the day after we left) .

It was wonderful!  Just the getaway we have been needing.  We had lots of great times while we were away.  The highlight of the trip, and the main reason we went, was tubing down the Chattahoochee River. It was so much fun that John Charles chose to do it 2 days in a row.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures of that since we didn’t want to take a chance of ruining our camera or phones and we forgot to buy a disposable water camera.  We have lots of photos from the rest of the trip though!
